PROGRESS REPORT | SEPTEMBER 2012
Here’s a quick rundown of the shops, restaurants, and more we can expect in the next year or so (often with new info on opening dates)—including Tribeca Canvas, Sushi of Gari, Barry’s Bootcamp, Michael White’s Butterfly, Roberta Freyman, Benares, Fika, Drybar, Westville, American Flatbread, and many more. I highly recommend reading this post so you’ll know what I’m going on about….

88 READE WILL BE A RESTAURANT
The Mike’s Papaya space is going Middle Eastern and vegetarian. Plus: Why we can’t trust construction workers when they say they’re working on a phone store. Also: Does this mean IHOP could still happen?

EVERY DANCER SHOULD LOOK THE PART
Dance lovers will want to boogie on over to Studio 4, Downtown Dance Factory‘s new retail space. There’s not only lots of DDF merchandise, but also costumes, tutus, hair accessories, great dance jewelry, and dance-themed books, toys, and puzzles. Plus: Registration for fall classes is now open, with an expanded program—over 100 classes a week! Spots are still available for all ages (twos to teens) in all dance styles—ballet, jazz/hip hop, street hip hop, tap, lyrical, and boys’ program. (Sponsored.)

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT IN TRIBECA
Fashion only gets out one night a year, but it’s quite the party. Here’s what’s going on in these parts tonight (Thursday). Personally, I’m all about the large-scale marionette at Gary Graham.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: BY JOY GRYSON
“It was important that our store be on Franklin Street,” says designer Joy Gryson. “I’ve always loved shopping at Steven Alan and Bu & the Duck, and when Bu & the Duck left….” Take a look around. The grand opening party is tonight (see Fashion’s Night Out, above).

SEEN & HEARD
••• 9/5: Edible Arrangements is coming to Duane Street. Plus: Asphalt Green non-update; all-you-can-drink concerns; Warren Street dog run fees; Franklin stoop painted.

NORTHWEST TRIBECA IS INDEED GETTING A HOTEL
(Or at least it appears to be.) Also on the CB1 agendas for September: Plans for the Matsugen space; venting about the Asphalt Green mess; school-crowding update; and much more. UPDATE: The restaurant coming to the Matsugen space is being opened by an advertising agency, and there will be a redesign and a coffee shop.

NOSY NEIGHBOR
“Any idea what these white things sticking out of the windows at the building under construction at Franklin and W. Broadway might be?” —P. Here’s the answer.

IN THE NEWS
••• 9/3: Body pulled from river. Plus: Jackie Robinson Museum tries again; Spice Warehouse condos; World Trade Center workers drinking during the workday.
••• 9/5: Inside Tribeca Canvas. Plus: Dosateria reviewed; Dirty Bird opening date; Battery Park City Authority’s new chairman; kids skip 9/11 health survey; another online creative agency; plug pulled at City Winery show.
