Pão Has Closed

Pao screengrabThe end of the year has proved exceedingly cruel for Greenwich Street restaurants: Telepan Local, The Harrison, Josephine, Ivy’s Bistro, 508 Gastrobrewery, and now Pão, the Portuguese restaurant at the corner of Greenwich and Spring, have all closed.

I’m not sure what the “against my wishes and will” meant in the below tweet; the Facebook post it linked to is gone.

UPDATE: Christy Bristy pointed out on Facebook that Tribeca Pizzeria is also closing, which will make it seven restaurants on Greenwich. (I called the pizzeria to ask for an update, and now they’re saying they’re not closing till sometime in February.)

    Very sorry to hear that. We had many wondersful meals there. Their rabbit was the best in the city. All the best to the wonderful PAO staff. You will be missed.

    At least Union Bar & Kitchen down the block from Pao is around to help feed hungry local residents! I was there last night and the food keeps getting better and better.

    Let me see……
    We got rid of Teleran which was quite possibly my worst experience in Tribeca, Josephine which was closed by health Dept and could barely muster a “B”, Tribeca Pizza? Was that ever really pizza?

    Ok Ivy and Pao will seriously be missed. Otherwise Good Riddance!

    “against my wishes and will” means that they were basically forced out of there by their shitty landlord after 20 years.
