The Shopdogs of Tribeca (Vol. 9)

TRIBECA VETERINARY WELLNESS
Name: “Seeker” (in French, “Sicœur,” meaning “if, heart/love…”—and because she was looking for something (according to our then-six-year-old, Tristan).
Breed: Perhaps a Coton de Tulear with a few other breeds, such as Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier, mixed in. She is a rescue dog found running on the road with no identification, no one looking for her, not spayed, with long nails and fur, and tartar covering her teeth.
Owner/parent/boss: Juliette and Tristan (six and nine years old), Lionel (her French dad), and her number-one boss, Dr. Jennifer Berg (her veterinarian, too)! All humans and cats are her bosses—and maybe a few dogs, too.
Typical workday: Her titles include Chief Hospital Greeter, Team Morale Specialist, Helper Dog/Candy Striper, Lounger Extraordinaire, Instagram and Facebook Model, and, seasonally, Pet Photos with Santa Helper. Her roles include:
Visiting with other dogs here with us for wellness care (at the conclusion of their appointments, while they are here with us as a “candy striper,” or sometimes if patients need a “helper dog” in the exam room to help them relax!); hanging out in her fancy blue hammock in “her office” window watching all of the people and pups walking by the clinic; and taking care of the good doctor—she is especially a good foot and lap warmer! She’s also in charge of the Department of Lint and Small Pieces of Paper.

SWEAT YOGA
Name: Harley Hanuman Helliwell, a.k.a. Harley Krishna and the Doggie Lama.
Breed: Mix of Border Collie, Aussie Shepherd, and Aussie Cattle Dog. (He was a rescue from Alabama.)
Owner/parent/boss: Wade and Britton Helliwell.
Typical workday: Harley spends his work week at Sweat Yoga. His typical day involves sleeping, greeting yogis as they arrive by positioning himself in the doorways to ensure he gets noticed and needs to be stepped over, and absorbing and delivering good vibes to our guests. He’s in charge of treats and will hand out high fives to anyone who can administer them. Other roles include removing the stuffing from soft toys and at times his own bed in the fastest fashion possible. From time to time, he will run security checks of the bathroom and shower stalls just to make sure everything is in order. When he’s on break, he loves to play fetch in the hallway or just kick back and get belly rubs. Currently, Thursdays are his days off, when he spends time hiking upstate with friends.

PATRON OF THE NEW
Name: Rusty.
Breed: Maltese.
Typical workday: Walking around aimlessly because he’s blind. But he’s always everyone’s favorite thing to see in the store.

AUDREY MATLOCK ARCHITECT
Name:
Frederick Stredwick, a.k.a. Freddy.
Breed:
West Highland Terrier.
Owner/parent/boss:
Freddy is the best friend of Will Stredwick, who he lives with on Hudson Street, near Bubby’s. Once a week, Freddy comes down to spend the day at Audrey Matlock Architect to help ensure good design is upheld on W. Broadway. (Freddy’s favorite architectural influences are Bauhaus and anything by the great Danes.) While Freddy is there, he answers to Audrey, who dispenses his hourly pay in the form of treats.
Typical workday:
He is picked up for work around 10 a.m., and in the morning, he enjoys sitting in his dog bed at the front window, where he watches (and protects) W. Broadway. He barks a greeting to any fun-looking dogs who happen by. He takes walk breaks around noon and 3 p.m., and sometimes, he leads the office manager, Molly, to the local hardware store—an errand for which he is highly paid. Throughout the day, he will take some time at the water cooler (bowl). Whenever any employee needs a pick-me-up, Freddy is in charge of stopping by his or her desk and impressing with a trick. He is great at sitting, laying, and shaking. Will picks him up at 6 p.m. sharp for dinner and an evening run. Freddy is always happy after a hard day’s work ensuring a clean line in design and making the neighborhood safer and much, much cuter.

RAG & BONE
Name: Steinway.
Breed: Boston Terrier.
Owner/parent/boss: Anton Briones, general manager of Rag & Bone Tribeca Men’s store and Rag & Bone Cobble Hill.
Typical workday: Always excited to be at the store, Steinway bounds around the sales floor for the first few hours of the day happy to greet each customer with a polite sniff before leaving them to peruse at their leisure. After 5 p.m., however, he tends to slow down, and he can be found curled up in one of store’s custom chairs listening to the vinyl collection and taking an early evening nap. What a life!
