The 16th-annual Inside Tribeca Loft Tour, organized by and benefiting Friends of Duane Park and Friends of Bogardus Garden, is Sunday, Oct. 18 (1–5 p.m.). Tickets are $60 at duanepark.org; don’t wait, because only 350 tickets are available, and they’re not reserving day-of tickets as in years past.
The Friends kindly let the media preview a few of the nine homes on the tour. (The first is here.) Up next: A huge duplex on Laight Street. The owners have lived on the fifth floor since 2004; only recently did they add the fourth floor. They have three kids and one on the way, plus a cat named Kalisto. The architect was Ole Sondresen, with whom one of the owners, who is also a designer, works. (She also designed the apartment, of course.)
Living room:
••• The three Banksy artworks usually hanging in the living room are at the framer. But do check out the Dustin Yellin sculpture on the window ledge.
••• The living room carpet is by Fort Street Studio, whose founders live in the building.
••• The Brooklyn Toile wallpaper on the elevator doors is explained here.
••• The artwork in the dining room (pictured at the top of the post) is by JR, who just put up that mural on Sixth Ave.
••• The dining table has inlaid compass points.
••• That’s a built-in bourbon bar, because why not?
Office:
Up the stairs to the roof deck:
••• The wine fridge extends from the fourth floor up into the dining room on the fifth floor.
••• That dramatic piece hanging over the stairs to the roof deck is float copper from the bottom of Lake Michigan.
The downstairs level:
••• The painting of Mickey Mouse in the kids’ playroom is by Oliver Clegg, who presumably intended for Mickey to read as dead, but the owners are telling their kids he’s just napping.
••• The powder room has a window that frosts over when the door is locked.
