New Kid on the Block: Tribeca’s Kitchen

Tribeca's Kitchen booth2Gee Whiz Diner on Greenwich is celebrating its 25th year in Tribeca with the opening of an all-new restaurant, Tribeca’s Kitchen at Church and Duane. It’s a family affair: Gee Whiz owners Andy Koutsoudakis and Peter Panayiotou are partnering with their respective sons, Andreas Koutsoudakis Jr. and Chris Panayiotou, as well as Gee Whiz cook Francisco Ramos.

Spread out over three levels in an attractive corner setting, Tribeca’s Kitchen is about 3,000 square feet with 140 seats. “The concept is to make the fan favorites from the diner menu with even higher quality ingredients,” says Andreas. “Wherever possible, we purchase local, hormone or antibiotic-free ingredients, and we have local and imported beers as well as select wines, artisan breads, premium coffee, tea, and a lot more. We wanted to enhance the diner experience without losing the comfortable neighborhood feel.” Judging from the crowds of well-wishers stopping by in its first days, Tribeca’s Kitchen is going to get a very warm welcome.

Of note: Pictured at the end of the post is the special brunch menu.

Tribeca’s Kitchen is at 200 Church (at Duane), 212-227-5100; delivery is available.

  1. excellent! I need more medium price options. I miss Jerry’s Diner

  2. Went last night. Nice staff and typical diner options. I had the slider combo which is two burgers and two chicken sliders and fries. My husband had the ribs. Mine was really good. The ribs could have used some sort of BBQ sauce as they were very plain. Definitely a good fit for the neighborhood.

  3. How wonderful to see a new restaurant open in the nabe that does not have appetizers starting at $20 and entrees at $30! Spiffy-looking and in the great — and alas fast-disappearing — tradition of the New York diner! There’s even a revolving glass cake and pie case! Welcome and good luck!

  4. I went there for the first time last week, and I was woefully disappointed. My over-easy eggs were seared, the toast was barely, and the bacon cold. all for 50% more ($12) than Gee Whiz.
