Nosy Neighbor: Why is Tribeca Tower’s Plaza Still Closed?

What’s going on with with the park on Duane between Broadway and Church? It’s been closed for a very long time now. I’m not entirely sure, but I think that since they started, I moved out, gut-renovated my apartment, had a baby, and moved back in. Someone is still planting flowers in the flowerbeds, but they haven’t bothered to remove the abandoned bikes. —E.*

That’s not a park but a privately owned public plaza, which the developer of 105 Duane (Tribeca Tower) agreed to build and maintain in exchange for being allowed to construct a taller building. “The plaza is currently closed due to the façade work at Tribeca Tower,” says a rep for Related, which now owns the building, “and we expect to have that work wrapped up and the plaza open again before the end of the summer.”

*Not me.
