Nosy Neighbor: What’s the Deal with 79 and 81 Warren?

Do you know if the plan for 79-81 Warren has changed? It looks now like they are only building 81 Warren higher. Seems weird that they’d connect the two buildings higher in stages like they’re doing now. —J.

In the fall of 2016, the plan was to construct a new building on the site of 79 and 81 Warren—there was even a rendering, below—but now 81 Warren is getting a two-story addition (currently under construction), while 79 Warren will receive a one-story addition (the paperwork was recently filed). I emailed the owner of the two buildings but I didn’t hear back. Whether 79 and 81 Warren will be joined into one residential complex or exist separately is unclear.

Either way, Warren dodged a bullet: The projects on the street that are under construction (or about to be) include 12 Warren, 30 Warren, and 75 W. Broadway, while 86 Warren remains a possibility. And that’s not including the ongoing reconstruction of the street itself.
