Nosy Neighbor: What Are Electronic Mice?

“I took this picture at the far end of the 1/2/3 uptown subway track at Chambers Street. I asked someone from the MTA and he had no clue what ‘electronic mice’ are. Can you help me find out?” —M.

The MTA press department was happy to look into it. Unfortunately, the answer wasn’t quite as interesting as one might have hoped: The sign actually reads MTCE, even if the T looks remarkably like an I. (Click on the original image at right to see why M. and I didn’t read it as MTCE.) “This sign is for ‘Electronic Maintenance,'” said the rep.

  1. I am so disappointed – MICE was way better

  2. Thanks for looking into it! I had hoped it was some sort of “pinky and the brain”. Oh well.
