Last weekend, during Taste of Tribeca, there were military in cadence shouting “Marine Corps!” on public streets. Is this legal? It’s not the first time either and usually up West St. and then on Harrison. Who runs this program or whatever it is? —A.
At first, I thought it was a ROTC-style program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, but they said it wasn’t. Then I remembered the three military recruiting offices on Chambers. Sure enough, the folks at the Marine Corps Career Center at 165 Chambers said they occasionally lead physical training groups in the area. As for the legality, I can’t imagine why the marching wouldn’t be legal even if it wasn’t a branch of the military.

I understand how this could be annoying but as a veteran I can tell you that they are just showing their pride in serving our country. Something especially important to remember this weekend.
Thank you for your service Dave. I agree 100%. This is a special weekend for all service people!
I cannot believe someone actually asked “is this legal?” Wow.
I am grateful for the young men and women who continue to dedicate their lives to protecting us. If I see them conducting a drill, I will cheer them on.
