Do you know what’s going on with Peace & Love? It’s been closed up for more than a year, but the signage is still up. Is it planning to open again? —S.

When Peace & Love closed “for renovations” in January, 2o13, a note on the door said it’d open in three months. People were saying that wasn’t happening, so a month later, when a phone number appeared on the door, I called and asked: four months, was the answer. In late May of last year, after no sign of renovation—and the inside was still visible at that time—Peace & Love papered the windows with the signage you still see now.

And then zippo, for nearly a year. I stopped by last week to ask nearby merchants if they thought Peace & Love would reopen; they looked at me as if I was speaking in tongues. I called the number on the website, but it wasn’t working. I tried sending a message through the website’s contact form, but it didn’t go through (“The system cannot find the path specified”). So I dug up the number that used to be on the door, for someone named Alex. “We’re in talks with the landlord,” he said, “and it’s going better. It’s still on the map.”

Until a “for rent” sign appears in the window, I think we have to take him at his word.
