Nosy Neighbor: What Is Citigroup Doing to Its Building?

Citigroup appears to be building something substantial at the corner of Hubert and West. The notice says that construction is scheduled to be completed in March 2015. Do you know what they are constructing? Looks like they are digging deep foundations. —J.

According to the Department of Buildings database, Citigroup will “REPAIR/REPLACE CONCRETE FLAGS WITHIN OPEN PLAZA. ALL WORK TO BE LOCATED WITHIN THE PROPERTY AND PHASING OF THE WORK WILL NOT AFFECT ANY REQUIRED EGRESS.” Flags, from what I see online, are concrete paving slabs.

A few days ago, I emailed the V.P. of facilities, as listed on the DOB permit, to see if anything else is happening. As J. noted, there’s substantial digging going on. On the other hand, the March 2015 completion date implies the project isn’t that big. We’ll have to wait and see whether the V.P. (or anyone else at Citi) responds, which is increasingly unlikely.
